Every father of a teenaged daughter -- or of a one-day-to-be-teenaged daughter -- needs to read Ransom's book. Usually of course it's the father who gets to tear out his hair, but it sounds like in Texas they do this differently...

I don't have a daughter and I've never experienced goth except at a distance. Nevertheless, this story rings through to me with absolute sincerity. The dialog is crisp and natural and the tension between father and daughter ebbs and flows as if I'm in the room. Teen angst isn't my normal cup of tea but this writing certainly is.

What do I know? I don't have a daughter. That shifting from persona to persona as the two try to communicate, it seem exhausting and really, really important. What a tough game to play. Thank you for letting me see.

Wow, I'm impressed and moved and sorry it stopped when it did. You've got quite the voice and inflection for performing it, too. Dialog is spot on. Bark of a redwood tree woven into silk. I know someone with that hair. What an evocative image. Most writing doesn't sail along as briskly as your's while at the same time dropping those anchors deep down. You maintain that balance artfully. Gives me hope for the future of fiction.

A heartbreaking story well told. Ransom, you captured that feeling of fleeting connection between parents and teens so well. Your love for Heather and hers for you so clear for the reader, but you also captured that anxious feeling from both parent and child-what is happening to us?
I can't wait to read your book
